Creme Brulee French Toast

OK, this recipe is by far one of my favorites!  I’m a big sugar fan, and that MAY be why….or it could be that it is incredibly simple to make and is an AMAZING addition to a “gourmet-like” breakfast.  If you want to surprise your overnight guests with this or even host a brunch party, everyone will be asking for this recipe.  Go on though, take the credit for it and tell them its a secret!  Or…send them to!

Creme Brulee French Toast

  • ½ C Unsalted Butter
  • 1 C Packed Brown Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Corn Syrup
  • 1 8″-9″ Round Loaf Country-Style Bread
  • 5 Large Eggs
  • 1½ C Half and Half
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 tsp Grand Marnier
  • ¼ tsp Salt

  1. Melt the butter, brown sugar and corn syrup over medium heat and stir frequently until it forms a smooth texture.
  2. Pour into a 13x9x2 baking dish a spread evenly.
  3. Cut off the ends of the bread and slice the remaining bread into 1″ slices (trim the crust off)
  4. Arrange bread slices in the pan without overlapping. Squeeze them together if needed.
  5. In a bowl, whisk the eggs, half and half, vanilla, Grand Marnier, and salt.
  6. Pour mixture over bread, and let chill for at least 8 hours in the refrigerator
  7. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees until edges are light-golden (35-40 minutes)
